La Rosa Italian Restaurant

Last Friday (26th Oct) was Tony's Birthday. I have booked a table for 2 at La Rosa Italian Restaurant at Captain Scott Rd. Tony's hairdresser has recommended this restaurant to him and we have yet to have the opportunity to patronize. I have done a check on the review on this restaurant. They received good reviews and thought that day would be a good day to dine in this restaurant. The restaurant is located at Glen Eden, less than 10minutes away from our house. It was located at the corner of Captain Scott Rd and Wilson Road South Roundabout. It is a nice, cosy Italian restuarant. The atmosphere was great as staff were friendly. It is a medium size restaurant, be sure to book before you patronize.

We started the meal with a starter to share as we wanted to enjoy the whole meal without feeling bloated and uncomfortable as Italian food can be quite fufilling.

Our Starter
(Below)

Halloumi Fritto
Pan fried Halloumi Cheese, Prawns, thyme, cherry tomato, Capsicum and Lemon.
Served with Garlic Bread.

This starter was yummy I love the pan fried cheese. It was refreshing and delicious!

Tony's Main Course
(Below)

Anatra La Rosa and with a side dish of Cream (Mashed) Potato
Half a Duck Roasted in white wine and Orange. Served With salad OR vegetables.

Tony was full of praises for his orange sauce duck( kept saying it was the best duck he had), I don't eat duck at all so can't really comment however seeing him enjoying it and finishing everything on the plate showed his dish was good. Both of us simply enjoyed the creamy mashed potato, it was creamy and full of flavour, it was one of the BEST mashed potato we had in NZ.

My Main Course
(Below)

Spaghetti Col Aglio and Gamberi
Homemade Spaghetti with prawns, garlic, chilli and Olive oil.

I enjoyed my spaghetti though don't love it. There wasn't enough garlic and chilli to give you that bang you were looking for. It was full of olive oil at the bottom of the plate though, making it greasy and sick for my palate. I would definitely give it a go again for my next visit, maybe making my request for more garlic and chilli, less oil.

Our Desserts
(Below)

Super Sundae (Top) and Tiramisu (Traditional talian dessert with savoiardi biscuits soaked in coffee, surrounded in cream and Mascarpone)

Both of our desserts were heaven. No complaint at all. It was a great way to end our celebration. The overall experience was good. Great food with nice ambience and friendly staff. Our meal cost NZ$90 which was reasonable. We did not order any drink as we bought our own wine.

If you are fan of Italian food, this restaurant is definitely worth a TRY. Book before you go.
